Back at Malvern Parish Primary: Inspiring Money Wise Moments!
We were thrilled to return to Malvern Parish Primary School, part of the Diocese of Worcester Multi-Academy Trust, to deliver another Money Wise Workshop to their enthusiastic Year 5 students. Thanks to the generous support of the Malvern Parish PTFA, we had the opportunity to continue our mission of making financial education engaging, accessible, and fun.
This was our second visit to Malvern Parish, and it’s always a pleasure to work with such a welcoming school community. From the moment we arrived, it was clear the students were excited to dive back into learning about money. The classroom was buzzing with energy, and the students’ enthusiasm was infectious!

Coins or Crypto? The Payment Puzzle!
One of the most fascinating moments of the day came when we were discussing how we pay for things. A young student, deep in thought, was trying to recall the name of those “round metal things” we use to buy things—coins! As he paused, a friend sitting next to him leaned over and whispered, “Do you mean Bitcoin?”
It was one of those moments that perfectly captures how the world of money is evolving and how young minds are exposed to both traditional and modern financial concepts. It’s fascinating to see how students’ perceptions of money have shifted with the rise of digital payments and cryptocurrency.
Needs vs. Wants – A Lightbulb Moment
When exploring the difference between needs and wants, one eager student raised her hand with lightning speed, convinced she had a “need” to share. But as she began to explain, she paused and reflected. After a moment of thought, she smiled and admitted, “Actually, I want it… I don’t need it.”
It’s moments like these that make our workshops so impactful—helping children think critically about their spending habits and develop a healthy financial mindset.
Young Investors in the Making
We also had an insightful conversation about investments when one student mentioned that she regretted not investing in Apple years ago, believing she could have made a fortune! This prompted a valuable discussion about investments, risks, and the importance of making informed financial decisions—proving that financial literacy can spark entrepreneurial thinking at any age.
The Mobile Phone Debate: Essential or Luxury?
Another highlight of the session was when we discussed how technology has evolved over the years. When we mentioned that some of us didn’t have a mobile phone until we were 25, the classroom was filled with wide-eyed disbelief! This sparked a lively debate on whether a phone is now an essential “need” or still a “want.”
It’s a great example of how the concept of financial needs evolves with time, and how what once was considered a luxury is now seen as essential.
Hands-On Learning Through Games
No Money Wise Workshop is complete without some interactive fun! The students loved our Higher or Lower game, where they guessed the cost of everyday items. This activity helps them understand how various factors influence prices, and the excitement in the room was electric as they debated and learned about the cost of living in a fun and engaging way.
What the Students Had to Say
We received some fantastic feedback from the students, many of whom left with a better understanding of how to make smart money choices.

Their words reflect just how much they learned and enjoyed the session, and we’re always thrilled to see their newfound confidence in managing money.
A Huge Thank You to Malvern Parish PTFA
We want to extend a huge thanks to the Malvern Parish PTFA for funding these sessions and recognising the importance of financial literacy in their school. It’s fantastic to see schools taking proactive steps to equip their students with these essential life skills.
